On 26 June 2017, after 4 years of study at the Pontifical Salesian University, Brother Pascal gave a very lively defence of his Licentiate in Education Science, on The Pedagogy of Vocations Formation.

The thesis was entitled: An approach to inculturating the Formation of the Hospitaller Order of St John of God “Fatebenefratelli” in sub-Saharan Africa.

After setting out the reasons for choosing his topic and defining the objectives, structure, limitations and methodology of his research, Brother Pascal approached the subject in three chapters:

1. The theoretical framework for the inculturation of Consecrated Life with particular reference to the African continent.
2. The Hospitaller Order of the Brothers of Saint John of God and the problems of inculturation in Africa.
3. Formation for incarcerating the Order of the Hospitaller Brothers of Saint John of God in Africa.

Brother Pascal said in his conclusion that the urgent task awaiting the African Brothers of Saint John of God was to live an authentically African and authentically Christian Hospitaller way of life in communion with the local Church and the Universal Church, and the whole Hospitaller Order of St John of God, driven by the Holy Spirit, “which blows where it chooses”.
